Every time you are short on money, you visit an ATM and transact as much money as you need. It is convenient, user-friendly, and usually readily available. It can be found near gas stations, at convenience stores, in supermarkets, or two steps away from wherever you stand. This user-friendly device shares its roots across the globe. Its idea was first brought to light by Japanese bankers which spread across Sweden, the UK, and other nations. The first prototype ATM was installed by Chemical Bank in the U.S. It was designed such that if a user inserted a card that was specially coded, they could transact a fixed amount of cash. From here onwards, it was upgraded throughout these decades.
And here we are, living in an era where it’s so easy to use an ATM that even a kid can easily dispense money from their account. But even though it has so many pros associated with it, it has cons as well. At the end of the day, an ATM is a machine as its abbreviation defines as ‘Automated Teller Machine’ and a machine can malfunction at times. The reason why ATM malfunctioning can be a sensitive issue is that it contains all your life earnings. One can easily start to panic and get intimidated if they are transacting cash from an ATM and it does not respond as it should. One such common issue is what I am doing to address in this article. The issue is ATM error code d0111.

What is ATM error code d0111
This issue often occurs while transacting money from an ATM. The screen of your ATM displays a message saying ‘Transaction Denied’. Literally, it means that the transaction that was requested from your side has been declined. The reason can be associated with your card, sensors of the ATM namely CS14 and CS12, the area you are using your card from, or your account balance.
Working in an ATM
An ATM is a simple yet complicated machine given whether you are sitting on the user side or the manufacturer side. It is a data terminal that consists of two input and four output devices. It communicates through a host processor which is owned by a financial institution or any independent service provider. There are two different types of machines that can be supported by host processors. They are leased-line and dial-up. Dial-up ATMs connectivity is like any normal phone line. It can either have a modem and a toll-free number or have a local access number used by an Internet service provider. While leased line connectivity is through telephone lines that connect to the host processor through a typical four-wire and point-to-point pattern.
The two input devices it contains are:
- Card reader: When you once have a look at your card you would realize that it has a magnetic strip at the back. That magnetic strip is what helps your card send information to your bank through the host processor.
- Keypad: When you see the screen of your ATM, a lot of options appear including asking whether you want to withdraw cash, inquire about your balance, or transact money. If yes then how much money do you want to transact? The most delicate information it asks for is your personal identification number, that is, the PIN of your account. All this information can be sent to the ATM through a keypad.
The four output devices that your ATM comprises are:
- Speaker: In the keypad itself you are provided a key that allows you to send speech or audio feedback.
- Display screen: The screen that guides you through each of the processes required to perform the action you want the ATM to perform is displayed on the Display Screen.
- Receipt Printer: A paper receipt is provided to you containing the details of your transaction. This process is done through a receipt printer.
- Cash Dispenser: Have you ever wondered why the body of an ATM is so long that it almost reaches your waist? Could it be for your convenience? Well, it may be disappointing to hear, but it’s not for your convenience. It is actually the cash-dispensing mechanism.
Another very important part of an ATM is Sensing Bills. From the above paragraph, we can understand that the soul of an ATM machine is its Cash dispenser. While each bill of cash exits the dispenser, its mechanism counts each one of them through its electric eye. A Journal contains all the information about the transactions made by every cardholder individually. This Journal holds a significant role in each transaction you make as its hard copy is maintained for two years by the machine owner. If the cardholder has any issues regarding their transaction, they have the freedom to demand this journal. Rectifying your issue is the responsibility of the host processor or the bank itself in case the host processor is not available.
The duties of a sensor do not end here. It is also responsible for estimating the thickness of each bill. In case the bills are stuck together or they are torn, worn out, or crumbled, then they are sent to the reject bin instead of getting dispensed to you.
The security of an ATM, obviously, has to be solid to prevent your money from maliciously getting into the hands of a wrong-doer. The prime responsibility is shared by PIN. Pin or Personal Identification Number is a highly encrypted number that you can choose by yourself in order to protect your money. This number is not recorded in the Journal. Only your account number is recorded.
Well, now you must be wondering why you had to go through the mechanism of an ATM. The reason is that to fix the ATM error code d0111 you need to have basic knowledge about the working of an ATM.
Reasons for Error d0111
To understand how you are supposed to fix this issue or if you can even fix this issue, it is important to understand why this issue happens. And to understand why this issue happens let’s have a brief introduction to the working of an ATM.
As it is mentioned above, an ATM machine contains Sensors that play a significant role in every transaction you make. If this part starts to malfunction, then you may face the error d0111. Basically, the message that you got on your Display Screen can be an implication that sensor CS14 and sensor CS12 are not working properly or they may be blocked. Let us see what can be the technical difficulty associated with these sensors:
CS14 blocked while trying to dispense the bills:
This sensor is a device at the topmost part of the cash tray. As we read above if bills are stuck together the sensor reverts the cash back. This activity is shared by the CS14 sensor. It is a dual sensor and this happens when both the sensors are blocked.
CS12 and CS14 both were blocked:
If both CS14 and CS12 are blocked then an MB2100T error message is displayed. If the bill bounces back while it is being dispensed then this error appears.
CS12 was blocked while trying to dispense the bills:
The only reason why this sensor is blocked is that the cash dispenser is out of service.
How to fix ATM error code d0111
Whenever you face error d0111 you have to be aware that it is not necessary that the problem is from your side. The only message you get is ‘Transaction denied’. It is never specified whether the machine is at fault or you are. Further, let us find out about the issues that can occur from both sides to simplify your problem.
Sorting the problem from the users’ side
In case the problem is not an underlying issue and then it most probably can be solved from your side. It can be a minor issue like you entered a wrong PIN or your daily transaction limit was reached. No need to worry even in that case cause I have got you. Here in this section of the article, I will discuss what sort of issue may exist from your side if you are encountering the ATM error d0111 ‘Transaction Denied’.
The fixed Daily Limit of the number of transactions has reached:
The limit to which you can transact money is not just daily but monthly or yearly as well. This rule exists because online money exchange and the limit of cash in the economy need to be smooth. A number of banks have this rule applied to each account so the amount of money you can transact from your account is also limited. This may be the reason why you are facing this error. If you need more money than the maximum limit can provide then you may have to contact your bank directly and proceed with the instructions provided by them.
You may be using an expired card:
At the bottom of your card, you can see the issuing date of the card side by side with the expiring date of the card. In case that date has been crossed and you are trying to transact money then this may be the reason why you are facing a d0111 error. To again validate the card you need to apply for a new card after contacting your bank.
The PIN you have entered is Incorrect:
As we read in the above paragraphs, ATM security is very tight, and to protect your account they allow you to lock your account with a Personal Identification Number of your choice. In any case, if you enter the wrong PIN then you will encounter this d0111 ATM error code. If this is the case then all you have to do is restart the transaction process and re-enter the PIN. If you have forgotten your PIN then you can contact your bank at your convenience. Also do not try to re-enter the PIN again and again. Re-entering the details after a specified number of times may cause you to lose access to your card.
Your card has been blocked:
In case someone is maliciously trying to enter into your account and steal money then the card can be blocked by the bank. The moment your card provider senses any suspicious activity regarding the security of your account, they do so to avoid it in any case. If this is the case then you must contact your bank.
The area from which you access may also be the reason:
Some areas specifically have a transaction limit fixed by the bank. If you encounter the issue, then you can go to the specifications of the bank to check the status for the same. If your query is not cleared then contact your bank personally to resolve the issue.
Sorting the problem from the machine side
Fixing CS14 Error
The fixer will be informed via the mainboard( It is a part that is responsible for the processing of the ATM. It connects the CPU and the memory of the machine. It also connects all the devices in the ATM to each other). Cleaning the sensor is the best option if you want to troubleshoot this error. Another option can be disarranging it and reinitializing the machine once the cash quality is checked and the cassette. Usually, the issue goes away with time, but if it does not then the fixer must install sign warnings in case the user tries to snatch the cash using their fingers.
Fixing CS12 and CS14 Error
Checking the connecting cables of the sensors is the foremost job to do. If it is required, the fixer may have to replace the sensors and re-install a clean sensor. Malfunctioning of the ATM machine or unrestrained EMI emissions can also be the reason why CS14 and CS12 are not working properly. If this is the case then the fixer has to make sure that the phone line of the ATM is properly plugged into the mainboard line. Also, the dial tone must be there.
Fixing CS12 Error
The solution to this problem can be firstly recognizing the problem itself. In case the sensor is blocked, it has to be cleaned. Or if the sensor is faulty, the fixer must double detect the sensor or check the feed

Whenever an issue related to the bank or your credit or debit card is encountered, it is obvious for people to panic. The card contains our whole life sayings which we have collected bit by bit. That is one of the reasons why bank and ATM security both are provided in order to prevent your money from getting stolen or landing in the hands of the wrong person. The error may seem like a hassle but it is required so the ATM and bank collectively can protect your account.
In case the sensors do not function as they are built to, you may end up receiving bills that may not be accepted in any stores or supermarkets. This would be an even bigger problem for you to tackle. Or let us say that the ATM does not provide such security where the transaction is unlimited and a wrong PIN by one or two digits is also acceptable, then anyone can break into your account to get away with it.
This article is for you to handle ATM error d0111 as easily as possible. Please make sure to keep changing your PIN from time to time to keep your money safe.
MB2100T or Mini-bank 2100t is the style of installing an ATM machine. Using this style, the machine is installed on the wall. It provides the flexibility of installation. It contains everything any other ATM machine contains like CPU, memory, cash dispenser, etc. This style of ATM is weather friendly and provides ADA(Americans with Disabilities) compliant voice guidance systems. Its best feature is its cash dispenser. It has a locking reject bin and a note cassette that slides out very easily. In case CS12 error is encountered, which is again very less likely with this machine as it has a high range of note cassettes, the cash tray slides out very easily. This feature makes fixing the d0111 error effortlessly.
Sensors are the most part of an ATM machine. They are responsible for keeping in check the bills that are supposed to get automated from the ATM machine. ATM error occurring in the CS14 sensor is important because in case the notes that are dispensed have any sort of issue such as let us say if it was torn, worn out, or crumbled, then this CS14 sensor shows the ATM error code d0111 on the display screen. The bills that are not suitable to get transacted are diverted back and sent to the ‘reject bin’. If the reject rate is high, then the machine owner is informed to clean, repair, or in some cases change the dispensing machine.
Classically, a System error can be defined as some sort of instruction given to the operating system which is undefined to the system or it is violating the procedures existing in it. A System error in an ATM can be defined along the same line. Most of the errors are related to preserving the security of the customer. In modern ATMs a lot of sensors like- Door Lock Sensors, Floor Sensors, Cam sensors, Intrusion sensors, Shock sensors, and sensors that can detect fraud exists. All these sensors are built-in in into an ATM machine to protect against undesirable entry, or attacks.
